The Honda Initiation Grant Competition has two rounds:
| 1. | Pre-proposal—Open to the public. Deadline: December 2, 2009 | | 2. | Full proposal—By invitation only. Top 10% of candidates from the pre-proposal round will be invited to enter the final round of the competition, with separate instructions. The HIG winners will be selected exclusively from these full proposals. | Pre-Proposal Submission Instructions: Contents: A pre-proposal should include cover page information, a brief (3 to 5 page) project description, and a sign-off sheet from you university (download the editable sign-off sheet). Pre-proposals must be submitted using electronic mail, PDF format (2MB max file size). | Cover page information: | | | 1. | A statement that the document is a pre-proposal to Honda Initiation Grant 2010 program | | | 2. | Principal Investigator name, telephone, fax number and email address | | | 3. | Name and address of PI's institution | | | 4. | Title of proposal | | | 5. | Keywords (5 or less) | | Project description should include the following (12pt double-spaced): | | | 1. | Abstract of proposed research | | | 2. | A statement of the uniqueness of your idea, including comparisons to existing solutions directly | | | 3. | Explanation of your methodology | | | 4. | Anticipated results in one year | | | 5. | Anticipated results at conclusion of investigation | | | 6. | One-year project schedule including start date, milestones, assigned labor, completion date | | | 7. | Detail of items needed from Honda (data, samples, other) to perform research | We have provided an HIG 2010 Pre-Proposal Template for your convenience. Sign-off sheet information: All proposals must be accompanied by an editable sign-off sheet, to be signed by appropriate university grant officer. By signing this agreement, researcher and University agree that this application and any subsequent grant awarded by Honda hereunder is subject to the terms and conditions of the Honda Initiation Grant Program, including without limitation the sections entitled “ Reporting,Communicating and Conditions” and "Publication and Proprietary Rights," thereof. Submission Procedure: Begin by clicking on the link titled Ready to Submit (located on the right side of this page). This link will guide you through the application submission process. Each proposal should not exceed 2MB data size. If you are submitting multiple proposals, the combined data size should not exceed 10MB. We request that the PI use his/her own e-mail to send the proposal. Mismatching between sender name and proposal PI name may cause delay in the review, as we process many proposals.
The proposal file should be attached in the e-mail, and named using this file-naming convention (important: 60 characters max.): lastname.institution.Title_three_words.HIG10 | | • | lastname is the last name of the first PI | | | • | institution is the university to which the first PI belongs (words may be truncated/abbreviated) | | | • | Title_three_words is the first 3 words of your title – leaving out "a", "an" or "the" | Please Note: Due to the high number of submissions received, a written review of first round participant proposals not selected for the second, Full Proposal, round of competition is unavailable. A review will be provided for those submissions accepted into the second round of competition which do not ultimately win a grant award.
